Jane Beresford
Jane was born
in 1970 (when the dinosaurs were still around - she says) - in Nottingham, and
educated herself to 'O' level standard - 5 of them to be exact. Her first
radio influences came from the the old school Radio Trent and the likes of John
Peters, Tony Lyman and Gary Burton to name a few. After
following station roadshows around Nottingham, and getting the bug (she says
that her mother did warn her that she'd catch one if she didn't wear a
vest), Jane applied to and was accepted into Nottingham Hospital Radio (NHR)
where she presented a show every week covering the music from the musicals of
the silver screen, which is where her
musical tastes are mainly
based along with Roy Orbison, Gene Pitney, Dusty Springfield etc as well as some
80’s stuff.
Upon leaving school she was fortunate to get a placement whilst on an a Youth Training Scheme with Radio Trent working alongside many of her idols at the time. 1989 saw her meet and subsequently marry her first husband and later bring her one and only son John into the world. By 1997, Jane's marriage ended with a seat in a wheelchair. Since that time, she met and married second husband and soul mate - Mick. Although a great deal of Jane's active social life is over, she has maintained an extreme passion about radio and backs Erewash Sound 1000% in the bid to go full time - but she really does hope its on ground floor level or with a lift!
Hobbies include x-stitch, writing poetry, the paranormal and generally trying to be there for everyone in good times and of course bad. Jane's love of local knowledge led to her greatest achievement to date - to be accepted as part of the Erewash Sound team, and feels that, if she has one quality that would help her in her job it would have to be that she doesn't get flustered when speaking to people in the media or authority so when interviewing for instance the Prime Minister, she would be able to cope!
If Jane had to choose anyone that she would aim to be likened to in terms of excellence then she would have to say the legend that is radio presenter Bernie Keith. She doesn't think that Ian Perry is too bad either! (Is she nuts? Ian)
Jane is the driving force behind Erewash Sound's local news coverage and researches, collates and provides material for broadcast, and for the Erewash Sound Website Newspage. Since the launch of the website news service in October 2005, the section has become the most visited after the station home page, and page stats continue to go from strength to strength.
